Circle Circle dot dot is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that engages audiences by creating original Theatre devised from the stories of our community. We allow each new development to be entirely collaborative and inclusive with a broad scope of the art world. We do this to bring Theatre back to the root of what has always made it important: the ability to allow the world to see and understand itself through stimulating, informative, and highly entertaining art.
In Winter of 2010, eight young theatre artists sat down to create a world-premiere production based on their most intimate of moments. During that creative process, the decision was made to start a new company that would focus on creating new works based on the stories of local communities. From this, Circle Circle dot dot was born in the spring of 2011. Since it's inception, Circle Circle dot dot has brought San Diego fourteen fully-produced world premieres and exciting events. In 2013, Circle Circle dot dot helped organize and run the inaugural San Diego Fringe Festival which won a Craig Noel (San Diego Critic's Circle) award for Outstanding Special Event. In 2014, CCdd conceived and produced 'Red Planet Respite' as part of a Residency at Arizona State University. Next, CCdd was the La Jolla Playhouse 2014/15 Resident Company. Circle Circle dot dot continues to create and support the creation of new works throughout San Diego and beyond. Many People ask, what does "Circle Circle dot dot" mean? Well, when we began we were a group of misfits. Performers who found themselves as outsiders with little place in the local scene and deciding to create the work that fit us rather than striving to fit in. The playground taunt "circle circle dot dot now you have a cootie shot..." reminded us of the outsider as well as the healing properties of the cootie shot. With our work of telling stories from our community, we hope to spread our own kind of cootie shot throughout San Diego and beyond.
