Announcing: "Bearded"

Circle Circle dot dot dives into the Holiday Season with their World-Premiere production of Bearded!

Imagine holding the key to a child's Christmas joy in the palm of your hand and you mightbegin to understand the incredible task of playing the role of Santa Claus!  Circle Circle dot dot's first-ever Holiday production Bearded will share with audiences the incredible true-life tales from real San Diego Mall Santas, and shed light on what it's like to be the man behind the beard.

"As a huge lover of the Holiday season, I was thrilled to take the opportunity to get into the spirit of Christmas with this latest endeavor.  While the world of a Mall Santa proved to be a bizarre one, it also revealed quite a lot of beauty in the humanity involved in successfully filling the shoes of the daunting, and magnanimous character of Santa." - Katherine Harroff, Playwright of "Bearded" and Artistic Director of Circle Circle dot dot.

Attendees of "Bearded" will be delighted in the transformation of the 10th Ave Theatre in Downtown San Diego, as they will be transplanted right into the middle of Santa's Village with scenic design by Shaun Tuazon.  Photo opportunities with Santa are encouraged after the production.

This production is suitable and accepting of diverse audiences, families, and all ages. However, CCdd does not want to destroy the Santa illusion for any young ones.  Parental discretion is advised.

Melissa at Vintage Religion's Make-up Class!

Fabulous Company Member Melissa Coleman-Reed had a great time working on perfecting her Make-up for Morp!  Check out what she was up to:

Last Monday night, I had the pleasure of attending the Dia de los Meurtos Makeup Class held at Vintage Religion in North Park. As we at Circle Circle are in full swing and gearing up for our big gala, MORP, on Saturday, October 26th, I figured learning some makeup techniques to recreate the tradition of the beautiful painted Sugar Skull look on my own face for our event would be a fantastic idea! The class, held in the back workshop of Vintage Religion, is hosted by owner, Philip Shirk and taught by Debi Winger.

Debi led us through a series of techniques that included creating teardrops and swirls. And with a deft hand and a little practice, the drops and swirls would create beautiful flowers, spiders webs, skeleton mouths, dots and twirls, all accentuated with glitter and gems. I was fortunate enough to be able to sit as one of the models and Debi painted a gorgeous masquerade half-mask on me. The top portion of my face was painted, while the bottom was left free for lipgloss or lipstick. This look is fantastic for a party like ours where you will be eating and drinking through the night. You too can have a sugar skull look without worrying about eating half your makeup!

In the spirit of this year's Day of the Dead MORP theme, I am excited to try out these new makeup tips and tricks. And while you don't have to paint your face or dress in costume to attend our Gala, why not? Halloween is right around the corner and the costumes that people come up with are so exciting to see and add such a special element of creativity and fun to our one night-event. For those of you ready and willing to dawn your costumey-best, we are having our annual Costume Contest where we, the Circle Circle Company, choose the best outfitted guests of the night. And two of these lucky people will be crowned Emperor and Empress of MORP and will be adorned with hand-fashioned crowns. Crowns that I will be constructing with my own two hands.

I am excited to see you all next Saturday and I thank you in advance for supporting our company!

Your hot-gluegun wielding mistress of crafts!

Melissa C-R

ps there are there are two Dia de los Muertos makeup classes left: Friday, October 25(6pm-8pm) and Monday, October 28 (6pm-8pm) and two Sugar Skull making classesThursday October 24 (6pm-8pm) and Saturday October 26th (12pm-2pm) Who knows... you could also leave class with a pretty painted face and covered in glitter too!!

"A Haunting" Behind-the-Scenes With Crystal Brandon

Company member Crystal Brandon is one of the fabulous directors in "A Haunting in San Diego".  She took the time this week to talk a little about her piece:
I have always been a fan of scary stories. It could have been all of the R.L. Stein books I read as a kid, or the fact that I saw "Chucky" when I was 5 yrs old. I remember loving the Nickelodeon show "Are you afraid of the dark?". I even remember practicing how to scream when I was alone in my house. I pretended to be an actress in a horror movie, and I work on getting the best blood-curdling scream I could muster.  As I grew up so did my taste in all things scary. My favorite movies include "The Shinning", "The Exorsist" and more recently "Paranormal Activity" and "VHS". After hearing "My Poltergiest" by Amy Wallen, I knew I was interested in making this true story come to life on stage.

"My Poltergiest" is based on an experience Amy had when she moved to a house in Del Mar with her new husband. Her husband was a mysterious man. Amy was so caught up in their whirlwind romance that she ignored clues that would unearth his secret life. While all of this was happening, there seemed to be something unexplainable in her house that wanted her attention. A series of strange occurrences transpired while they lived in that house. What could it be? You be the judge, and find out Oct 26th at Centro Cultural Del La Raza at 7pm.

The Talent:
Writer:Amy Wallen is a member of So Say We All who is collaborating with Circle Circle dot dot for MORP: A Dead Mans Party! She is a novelist and she teaches both at UCSD Extensions and her home.

Actor: Bailey Neil will be playing the part of Amy in the story. Bailey has a BA in Theatre from San Diego Sate University. She has performed is several SDSU productions as well as some community theatre work in San Diego.

Actor: Jesse Ray will be playing the part of the Husband. Jesse studied theatre in New York and moved to San Diego five years ago. He is chef and the frontman/ bassist for his band "Comanches".

Here are some pictures and and a short clip from rehearsal:
